What I Did: My co-leader suggested this breakfast to our troop of Brownies. Everything seemed to be going to plan, when suddenly there was a huge POOF and a giant flame burst up in the air, burning all of the bags. Ash was raining down. Thankfully, no Girl Scouts were harmed in the attempt at making this breakfast!

My Result: result

Next Time I Will: Our girls suggested making “No-bag breakfasts” from now on. I’m with them on that one!

I think parchment paper bags were supposed to be used instead of normal brown paper bags for this recipe.

  2. Kris

You put them on the grate instead of hanging them over the fire, which made them much easier to catch on fire.

Haha. We tried this when I was a girlscout too! We had an unfortunately similar result. My troop lead always used to say, “That’s why they’re called ‘try its’.”

I think part of the trick here is letting the fire burn down to just coals. The heat is much more controllable and steady in that form.

When I was a Girl Scout, we would put our eggs and things in ziploc bags and put them in a pot of boiling water over a campfire. Worked perfectly.

The website also said to leave space for steam to escape, which if they didn’t do that could explain the explosion.

    Brilliant! This is my favourite.

This was supposed to be done over low coals, not over a flame. 🙁
