Ideally we would live in a world where this site dies off because every DIY attempt results in Pinterest Wins. Yes! But, the world keeps turning and Pinterest-inspired projects keep failing, and Pinterest Fail will keep you laughing. I hesitate to ask for submissions because I don’t want to urge people to fail so I can have content for the site. Submissions have fallen a bit lately though and so I’m going to drop weekend posts in order to keep a Monday-Friday posting schedule. When your friend posts on Facebook about their latest crafting attempt that didn’t work out, make sure you send them over here so we can all see it too!
My latest personal Pinterest Fail has to do with DIY Chalkboard Paint made with interior latex paint. My first attempt at mixing was clumpy, and even when mixed correctly the paint wasn’t quite as versatile as I was hoping it would be. I’ll fill you in on the details soon.
I really wanted to try making the chalkboard paint so please post the results!
i used to really enjoy Pinterest Fails but some of the comments made on fails were so aggressive,personal and downright rude that it took all the fun out of the site eg Stained Glass Cookies
Perhaps this may be a reason why submission of Fails has dropped or perhaps no one is failing anymore !
I’d like to see more actual fails and not ‘I didn’t follow the instructions at all and I don’t know why it didn’t work’. I don’t know but I kinda see those as more user error than pin error.
Agreed with Mandy… I think maybe the volume of contributions has declined a bit because some of the “fails” were not really based on things that didn’t work out, it was users totally disregarding the directions. I feel like Pinterest “fail”-based sites like this lose a bit of credibility when they start posting these submissions.
I just don’t think people really see the “humor” in deliberately failing. If you can try your best, fail, but still be able to joke about it, and find room for improvement, it’s much more entertaining, enjoyable AND useful to read than recollections from people who made basically no attempt to accurately follow the directions.
Also, if I was credited as a source for one of the tested pins, and someone found it and then basically made a mockery of it and screamed “FAIL!” after not even giving it a real, fair try, I would be really upset and embarrassed.
Thanks for posting this! I have about a thousand copies of this pinned and I’ve been wanting to try it. Post updates if you try again. Otherwise I might just buy the spray paint kind!
