What I Did: Martha Stewart’s instructions were impeccably followed. Sugar cookies were rolled out and cut. Jolly Ranchers were crushed in Ziplock bags with a rolling pin. Holes were filled with crushed candies. And yet, the result looks like my children threw gobs of jelly at the cookies from across the room. I suspect the culprit was overfilling and overcooking, leading the JollyRanchers to bubble and flow like ugly, sticky lava. The recipe said to bake for 8 minutes to set cookie, then add candy, then cook for 3 minutes. But the extra 3 minutes wasn’t enough to finish cooking the cookies so we had to cook them
Longer.
Next Time I Will: only use one color of candy per cookie, choose brighter colors, use less candy in the center, cook the cookies longer before adding candy, and then cook only to melt candy. The candy/cookie combo doesn’t even taste very good. They would make pretty sun catchers, though.
