What I Did: We were making cupcakes for a Finding Nemo baby shower. We are not sure what went wrong, but we quit after the 3rd cupcake.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: not make them.

Well, first off, the instructions clearly state to use fondant…not frosting. You saved some if the whit fondant for the whites of the eyes and kneaded in orange food coloring.

The orange or white frosting was to be put on first to hold the fondant parts onto the cupcake.

It is important to read all the instructions before staring a project and to make sure you have the proper supplies.

Definitely “User Error”. Frosting is not the same as fondant. I am guessing the pinner just looked at the photo (which is clearly fondant) and decided to wing it.

I agree, fondant was not used. It it clear the poster did not follow instructions.

I can’t believe he didn’t read the instructions. He ruined everything!!!!!

Only fondant could really get the result shown in the picture. It is kneadable, moldable and can be cut and rolled.

Of all the pinfails I’ve seen involving “baked sweets”, I’d bet *at least* half of them involved using frosting instead of fondant. Probably 80% of that half say “I don’t know what I did wrong,” or “I followed the instructions exactly.”

Do people *really* not know fondant and frosting are not the same thing? I can’t imagine so, as they look (and more importantly, behave) totally different. Or do they know, but think it’s not important? I just don’t get it…

do people not realized that A.. let the cupcakes cool and B.. TAKE THEM OUT OF THE PAN before you decorate them????
