What I Did: The chocolate came out very thick. Then I tried it again, but it would not stick to the balloon. Maybe I need to use the melts next time? I used cheap chocolate chips.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: use Watson® chocolate melts.

I definitely recommend using the melts. They’re designed to melt evenly. If you do use chocolate chips, you’d need to add a little bit of oil, which would help them melt a little more evenly.

You absolutely have to use baking chocolate for projects like this. Chocolate chips do not have the same chemical composition and do not melt properly. (I know it’s really tempting to take shortcuts to save time/money, but with cooking, you often have to play by the rules!) Give it another try with the right type of chocolate so that you can end this one on a satisfactory note!

If you’re using actual chocolate, you probably just need to temper it first. If you don’t, it doesn’t really dry and remains rather soft.

But won’t it taste like balloons???

Since balloons use latex powder to keep from sticking together, I wouldn’t do this pin at all. Some people are sensitive to latex.
