What I Did: I let my kids (5 and 3) help… We all had fun, though. Plus, the kids loved cleaning up the mess - by eating it!

I am having a great ol’ time laughing at the photos on this website, and I think your attitude towards the fail is fantastic. Memories are much better. But, for anyone who does want to make a gingerbread house, I have a few tips up my sleeve (I make one every year, and at first it was bloody difficult!).
1. Cheat - use large wooden skewers or toothpicks to hold the pieces together as the icing dries. This means waiting overnight, too.
2. Make your own icing. The store bought ones are not hard enough, you need royal icing which is made with just icing sugar, lemon juice and water. It tastes great with the gingerbread too!!! There are good recipes for royal icing online.
3. Walls first, all stable and skewered. Then roof bits. Then finally decorate. You gotta have the patience, as the fun part comes last!

Try it again, my kids love making gingerbread houses (and destroying them after). Google a good gingerbread icing recipe, the one I use is called gingerbread house super glue. Only a couple of ingredients and dries super fast. Way better than the store bought stuff that never seems to dry
