What I Did: I wanted to make jelly worms for a Halloween party. I followed the instructions and was sure to give them enough time to set. It turns out the warm water used to release the “worms” from the straws kind of melts them.

Next Time I Will: Larger straws may make a difference. I’m interested to see if this worked for someone!

It has added ingredients that should help combat the melting jello problem. I think you had a great attempt, you just didn’t have all the information to be successful.

Also if you add gelatin it makes them “thicker” i tried for my sons birthday party and well i added the whipping cream while it was still hot so it didn’t come out 🙁
I tried this too, and it DID NOT work. I followed the directions EXACTLY. Used cream and everything. At first the straws just floated to the top. I pushed them down and had them held down while they chilled in the fridge. They were surrounded by jello because most of it came out the bottom. By the time they were chilled all the way, it all came out as one giant round chunk of jello. When I pulled the individual straws out, there was only about 2 inches of “jello worm” that didn’t look like a worm at all. It was a huge giant fail.
I made these. They turned out just fine … the problem was definitely getting them out. The hot water doesn’t really work unless you are careful. I ended up just squeezing them out one at a time (and had a blister to show for it!)

I havent tried them yet, but i would suggest once you fill them, place something heavy enough to hold down the straws on top but not to heavy as to bend them. also, maybe try spraying the tubes with cooking spray first?
