What I Did: Yummy strawberries were cut appropriately. The cream-applied dabs just weren’t thick enough. On this beautiful hot Christmas day in new Zealand, they just looked like something out of a horror film and melted away. 🙂 They were quite hilarious!
My Result:
Next Time I Will: Well… probably read the recipe. I just used the picture, but if it doesn’t mention thickening up the cream, make sure you do that 🙂
I love them!!!! Way more entertaining than the original. 🙂
The original picture looks like it might have used a canned whipped cream like “reddiwhip”.
You could also use ice cream if you are planning on eating them quickly. It would hold a bit longer. 🙂
The original recipe blends mascarpone with the whipped cream for extra hold! It’s delicious!
You can also blend some cheesecake flavored instant pudding powder as you are whipping your cream - will give it density/stiffness and add that cheesecake-y flavor that pairs well with strawberries.
I love them!! They have much more character and charm than the original.

There are several versions of these on Pinterest and elsewhere. I made some this year with canned vanilla frosting and let the strawberry juice from the cuts drain into paper towels to keep the parts from sliding apart, precisely per instructions. To no avail. Every darn one had to be skewered to keep its head on. I am thinking of cream cheese next year and mini chocolate chips for eyes. The idea that anything one makes for a party can’t stand up for an hour or two is ridiculous.
