What I Did: I don’t know how to bake, if that wasn’t already evident.
My Result:

Next Time I Will: learn to bake. No, but really. As soon as I took the cake layers out of their pans, they just crumbled. I would probably NOT attempt to “glue” it back together with icing next time, and just quit while I’m ahead.

The best cake mix to use is Duncan Hines then be sure to line your pins with a wax paper round to line the bottom only of the cake pans then I use shortening and dust lightly with flour. Fill the pans 3/4 of the way and lightly pound the bottom of the pan on the table or counter to bring up any air bubbles. After baking let the cake completely cool before releasing from the pan.
On the plus side, it does look like sand….. 🙂
I love your cake! And I can’t stop laughing.
It is 5:30 am and I’m laughing so hard I literally had to shove my hand in mouth to keep from waking my husband up.
To be truthful, that’s how most sand castles wind up.
The mound-of-sand cake looks exactly like the sand castles I made as a child.
