What I Did: I had to make some felted balls for a project. I saw this on Pinterest. I read the reviews. They all said how easy it was; they lied. As you can see, I tried several different amounts of wool vs. water vs. dish soap. On the up side, I got clouds.
Next Time I Will: be a little more attentive to detail, and how to finish them. I ended up with a lot of suds. I tried without soap and just ended up with wet wool. Like I mentioned, I needle felted them and was able to make clouds.
Did you use regular sheep’s wool? If it was labeled super-wash, some other animal or synthetic it will never felt. I’m a felter; nuno, wet, dry, shibori and needle felting and, using the correct fiber, felt balls are ridiculously simple to make. Below are several easy ways to make felted balls.
