What I Did: I have never been a good cook, but I thought maybe I improved with age. This is a cake I’d seen in the Women’s Weekly cake book my mom had when I was growing up*. My sister-in-law, who is Australian, had it at her house and I was visiting her in Calgary from Toronto, so I thought I’d give it a try. I was really hopeful it would work and set aside an afternoon to make it for my niece’s 4th birthday party. I bought all the right ingredients, which is something I rarely do. I promised myself I’d follow the directions EXACTLY. Also something I rarely do, preferring to improvise. But, wow, you need to do complicated things to make this… like wait for it to cool off. Bah! It got complicated when I had to start cutting it and sticking tooth pics in it. It was a gradual decline, as the duck slowly imploded on itself. Don’t worry, we still ate it. And my niece loved it. And my sister-in-law made a Humpty Dumpty cake from the same book. And it was perfect. You live… you learn… that you can’t cook, and perhaps that sometimes it’s more fun to laugh then get things picture perfect. It’s the chocolaty insides that count.
* She never actually made any of the cakes in this book, so perhaps she knew something I didn’t.
Next Time I Will: I would do it exactly the same. It was hilarious.
been there, done that… 😂.
That is utter gloriousness…
😂😂 I can’t breeeeathe! (I feel I CAN laugh at this because I had a similar experience making a Lego cake..at least the kids ate it and put it out if it’s misery 😂)
The original cake is terrifying!
Why would anyone want to have this original cake…yikes.
