What I Did: I am not an avid pinner, but when I ran across this cupcake recipe on Pinterest, I thought it might be a nice treat to make, seeing as how it’s going to be that terribly cliche ‘Show the one you’re with that you love them’ (opposed to all the OTHER days) holiday, Valentines Day. Mixing the batter with glee, and patting myself on the back for actually remembering to set everything out for room temperature AND remembering to make the cupcakes instead of forgetting and leaving the egg and sour cream out until morning, I was unstoppable! Pressing the buttons on my oven for 15 minutes, I couldn’t help but proudly tell a few friends that I was making CUPCAKES from SCRATCH - until the alarm rang, and I pulled them out carefully. Setting them on the rack to cool, I watched as they slowly started to deflate like a sad, sad whoopie cushion that lost its PPBPBPPBPBPT noise, until I was left with what you see here - the anti-cupcake - the Black Hole cupcake… I’m still working on the name, so work with me here.
My Result:
Next Time I Will: I would not make these cupcakes again. I am still scraping baked-on anti-cupcake bits from my tins!

Hrm…. I’m trying to think of how these went wrong…. But I can’t. come up with. A reason. For the life of me.
Did you use full fat sour cream?
Well, I have no solution as to why they collapsed (mine probably would too) but I’ve got a name for them: La Brea Tar pits.

The black holes just leave more room for piling on the frosting1 If you can chisel them out of the pan in one piece, that is…
EXACTLY … or fill that w/ FUDGE and top w/ frosting … YUM..!!
I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say you overfilled the liners. The ones that didn’t overflow aren’t that bad. 🙂
Check to see how old your baking powder and baking soda are 😉
