What I Did: I chose this project to renew an old table. The project assumes that a mixture of oil and vinegar will remove the scratches from the top. After applying two layers of potions I received a nice top with a fresh deep color, unfortunately, cracks and scratches have not disappeared. I made an identical mix as recommended. I am happy because the table regained color but the project failed because I find scratches remaining.

Next Time I Will: I will not do this project again because I do not think I could make a difference to the end result.

I think the fail is that the ‘scratches’ in the pinterest projects don’t seem like they are actually scratches in the wood. It looks like some of the varnish has been scratched off or worn off (like with the water ring). For any scratches in the actual wood, a solution of oil and vinegar wouldn’t do anything. You’d have to sand and refinish to get that same kind of result.
Try a mixture of linseed oil & turpentine … The turpentine will help break down & ‘spread’ the existing finish while the linseed oil will blend across the surface …
