What I Did: A group of friends and I decided to make this for a cookie contest. Regardless, we actually won most creative!
My Result:
Next Time I Will: We should have made the icing ourselves, to make sure it’s thick enough.

My family did this one year a looooooong time ago. They tend to use royal frosting for decor - it sets firmly but doesn’t taste all that good. The other trick was to use sugar cubes between the layers (fixed with frosting) to provide height to the tree.
You should also consider cheating. Instead of a layer of just icing, make it a layer of smaller cookies, maybe about the size of the very top cookie. Use the icing to hide the small cookie layer. It will look the same, and people won’t have to eat icing chosen for its structural integrity.
I don’t see a fail here. It’s just a short and stout tree. Love the addition of the little presents and you did a great job decorating.
But man it is putting me in a diabetic coma just looking at it. @_@
So cute, though!
Use a homemade butter icing and keep it cold until judging. it will be both tasty and have the desired stiffness. Always use gel color, not liquid color.
