What I Did: These cookies looked amazing, and the recipe looked simple enough. So I gather all of my supplies and get going. This recipe involves forming the cookie dough differently than most, so I was excited about it. Just one teeny little mis-step, however…
I mis-read the recipe and put in twice as much butter as was called for! How the heck did I do that?! Boo!
For the record, I tried again with the right amount of butter and while they turned out looking kinda like melty mutant peeps, they tasted great!
My Result:
Next Time I Will: Oh boy. Next time I will not channel my inner Paula Deen! I will keep trying this cookie-forming method she mentions, as it is intriguing. Maybe my next batch I will not form like marshmallows, but more egg-shaped. Hmm.

Maybe once you stack ’em . . . he he he.
Sometimes cookies fall flat when your butter is too soft when you put them into the oven. Next time try refrigerating the dough for maybe twenty minutes or so to stiffen it a bit, and then bake it. Another thing you can try is adding a half a teaspoon of Cream of Tartar to help stiffen things up. I started doing this and it really helped improve the look of texture of the cookies I make.
I think the recipe calls for the dough to be chilled for a while since the melted butter could make them more “runny”. I made this recipe a couple of weeks ago and they turned out perfectly. I baked them from frozen for 12 minutes. Good luck next time!
Did you chill your dough? Your cookies spread out like a warm dough would. Next time chill the dough and preheat the oven
Oh man, I made this recipe a few months ago. It’s SO complicated and time-consuming (I made them over the course of two days to give the dough plenty of time to chill) and they weren’t very pretty when they were done but they were DELICIOUS.
These are the best cookies I have ever had!!! I love most things by Sally’s Baking Addiction. Please try making them again— they are just perfect. Definitely chill the dough though. I found them on Pinterest about a year ago and I will never make another chocolate chip cookie recipe again. They are WAY worth the work. Yum!
This is my favorite recipe for chocolate chip cookies! I hate following recipes (yep, I’m one of those people who winds up with a lot of baking fails) but I follow this one EXACTLY because I love the result. Just do every little detail that the recipe requires and they will be perfect.
