What I Did: I chose this project for a dessert option for an early Christmas family get together. They looked delicious and easy. I didn’t change anything.
My Result:

Next Time I Will: I would make the peanut butter part less crumbly and freeze the balls a little longer. My project cannot be saved. I think with some changes the balls can turn out much better.

Maybe I’m crazy but I don’t see the fail? I’d have just popped them in the freezer a bit longer and drizzled more chocolate over them. You’re being too hard on yourself, they look yummy!
Really not a fail. I agree you are being too hard on yourself. a little more chocolate and pop those in the freezer for a longer time. let them get completely frozen.
I’m calling this slight win.
These look good….I don’t see a fail! You are wayyyy to hard on yourself..I would eat yours in a second. 😉
Those are buckeyes! My mom used to make them when I was a kid back in Michigan and I recently made a few batches myself.
The peanut butter mixture needs to ball up—definitely not be crumbly. Then chill the peanut butter mixture for 20 minutes before forming into balls. Then chill the peanut butter balls for another 20 minutes before you dip them in chocolate (yes, the wait is annoying, but it’s crucial).
Make sure your melted chocolate (with 1 tbsp of shortening to 6 oz of chocolate) isn’t too hot or too cold when you’re dipping the peanut butter balls—too hot and it’ll melt right off, too cold and it won’t cover smoothly. You may have to adjust the temperature as you go.
I did these… this is how they turned out LOL!
those look like they would still taste good.
I think the issue is with the “melted” butter. When I make mine, which was my nana’s recipe, I use room temperature butter. It blends with the smooth pb and the powdered sugar better. The cooling time is also important. I leave them in the fridge a little longer than necessary but it makes a huge difference when it’s time to dip in the chocolate.
