What I Did: I attempted to melt wax on the stove and caught the kitchen on fire.

Honestly I’ve made these before and I can’t think of why you would want to cover them in wax- wouldn’t it keep all the lovely cinnamon scent inside? As long as they are properly dried out I’ve had them last for years. I prefer the recipe that is just cinnamon and applesauce- It doesn’t get puffy like these.
Yikes! That’s some serious burn there. I second the vote for the applesauce and cinnamon ornaments, although you might have gingerbread trauma now.
I actually teared up a little at the picture to be honest… That looks horrible. I hope there wasn’t too much damage 😰
My mother melts wax over very low heat using a double boiler and it turns out okay. I’m just glad nobody was hurt. Sorry!
