What I Did: Tried to make a simple looking Star Wars cake for a 7th birthday. 3 hours later and it’s a major flop. My recipient so loves it, so that’s all that matters!

My Result:

Black fondant is very difficult. You could pass it off as the congealed lava that surrounds Anakin/Darth Vader following his battle with Obi-Wan on Mustafar.

  2. Jewels

    Fondant /= simple for beginners.

That cake = anything *but* simple. Cute, but so *not* simple. I like your version though!

At least they know that they should use fondant next time lol I fail at frosting cakes. They look much better when fondant and a nice smoothing tool is used.

Tell him it’s an “after” picture of the Death Star.

if you want to try it again maybe get edible paint and paint it black? Also so the cake isn’t so soft maybe try it a couple days after the cake was baked or freeze the cake. It looks like it was a little too soft.

I’d eat any cake as long as it’s chocolate. Is that chocolate? Would taste good even if it’s the apocalyptic star wars.

  7. Kelly

It kind of looks like Han Solo encased in carbonite

Yeah that cake was probably covered in chocolate fondant and air brushed black. You couldn’t have gotten it to look like that without an airbrush machine. Don’t beat yourself up
