What I Did: Looked simple enough and yet two women with 3 degrees between them and 7 years of working cannot properly dip a ball of cookie dough into a vat of chocolate. The results are poop truffles.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: forget the rest of the steps after mixing the dough, grab a spoon, and dig in!

The picture shows something that was made in a professional kitchen with professional quality ingredients and appliances. In other words, you couldn’t have done this anyway.

I’ve noticed there are more and more pins like this, and I think they’re created to drive traffic to the websites that publish them.

Ok I know this is an old comment but you definitely don’t have to be a professional to do chocolates. Chocolate is difficult to work with and takes time, patience, and practice.

First of all, if you want chocolate to dry hard and stay hard you must temper it, you do not have to be a professional or have professional to do so. There are many tips and tricks to doing this and youtube videos that demonstrate. Second of all, the chocolate has to be the right consistency when you dip or pour. This can take practice. Ultimately like cake decorating or baking or anything else on this site, you need practice practice practice. You aren’t going to get it right the first time.

Yes there are bad projects on this site but most of these mistakes are just plain inexperience. Nothing wrong with that, just don’t be afraid to try again.

It took me about a half dozen tries to make truffles that look close to the original pin. I usually have to add about 3TB of crisco to get the chocolate thin enough to coat smoothly. Almond bark is easier than chocolate. It’s cheaper and you won’t need to add anything to it. I’d suggest practicing with that before moving up to chocolate. It doesn’t taste as good, but most people won’t know the difference. AA is correct though, homemade truffles will never look like the first picture. Those have the chocolate poured over them by a machine. They are not dipped.

Maybe try with a toothpick and a douple boiler so the chocolate doesn’t start setting on you. Easy way of double boiler is fill a pot with water, place a steel bowl on top and start mixing the chocolate nibs until they are melted.

Always use Almond Bark when dipping something in chocolate. Nothing else ever works.

Most of your attempts don’t look bad at all for a first timer — but seriously, some of the last ones look like you just stopped trying. LOL
