What I Did: Okay, so it was my daughter’s 13th birthday, and she picked out this cool splatter rainbow cake, and I thought that looks easy enough! Bad mistake! One of the tutorials told me to use royal icing thinned down just enough to splatter it at the cake. Well, instead of using prime colors,I bought neon colors. This was a glow party, after all, and neon colors look like they are glowing, right? So to make a long story short, I must have gotten the royal icing too thin because the colors became opaque, and it ran horribly. There was purple, orange, and pink, and green, but the green dried too light! I also didn’t do the ribbon; my family hates fondant so I used green Sixlets leftover from my other kid’s birthday cake to line the edges. That part turned out cute. Also, the cake was crooked because I didn’t use dowels and I didn’t center the top tier correctly
My Result:
Next Time I Will: not thin the royal icing down as much and I think I would have used brighter colors. I also think that I would be more patient and let the colors dry between the layering of colors so that they don’t run into each other. It looks like some weird circulatory system of an alien. Unless any of my children ask for this style again, I think I will pass.

I think its cute…it looks like a “water color” cake id be happy to have that for my birthday! 😀
