What I Did: I thought it would be so lovely and easy to make lotion bars for everyone for Christmas. Great recipe - 3 ingredients! Pop them in the slow cooker, melt, pour, cool, and cut, voilà, lotion bars! “To save some time in clean-up, line the slow cooker first.” Cool! I don’t cook in plastic so I didn’t have any liners. I thought a thick 2 gallon freeze bag would do the trick. It may have, if I had not set the cooker to high and scurried on the the next project. I returned later to find that half of the plastic bag was melted and my 3 ingredient lotion had picked up a fourth ingredient: warm melty polyethylene. Nothing says “I love you and Merry Christmas” like warm melty polyethylene laced lotion bars! Cheers!
My Result:

Next Time I Will: I didn’t give the project my full attention because I was marathon knitting scarves galore so I took some shortcuts. Next time I will give this project my full attention. I will not set the slow cooker on high. If I don’t cook food with plastic, why cook lotion ingredients with plastic? Skip the plastic and deal with a little more clean-up next time. This particular project was 86’d, but I’d try it again.

Sweetie, I need you to understand, understand that freezer bags and crock pot liners are not the same things and are not interchangeable.
Without getting technical, one is designed to withstand cold wow the other is designed to withstand heat.
If you try this again, please refer to the ☝ above statement.
Good luck🍀
That’s correct, disposable crock pot liners are specially made to withstand the heat of the crockpot-no matter what temperature it’s set at. A regular zip-loc bag will melt-do not use those!
I don’t understand what you mean you don’t cook in plastic. Isn’t a freezer bag made of plastic? Isn’t that what polyethylene is?
The real joke here is that slow cooker liners are mylar, not plastic. Mylar is safer than plastic.
Even if you have an aversion to cooking your food in mylar, a box of liners (just for crafts) is pretty inexpensive.
Oven bags are also mylar, but most wont line a slow cooker perfectly. Still a better substitute than melting plastic all over the inside of your appliance.
