What I Did: My daughter loves two things: cats and poop jokes. When I stumbled onto this Litter-box Cake, I knew it was just what the birthday girl would want. I didn’t like the sandy color of the original, so I switched from actual cake to just filling a litter box (new, of course) with a (TRIPLE!!!) batch of rice-crispy treats. I bought some sort of silver cake spray-paint from the cake decorating aisle and coated the top. I then just microwaved and molded numerous “cat turds” out of mini-Tootsie Rolls. She LOVED it, and I got to enjoy the sight of everyone munching on fake poop. Just to add to the effect, I also bought some food/water dishes for the kids, which I filled with blue Jell-o on one side and cereal resembling dry cat food on the other. (I get a little crazy on birthdays!)
My Result:
Next Time I Will: The biggest thing I learned while making this is that if you use a big litter box like I did, you’ll need two cans of the cake spray-paint. I only used one, and it did work, but some of the rice-crispy treat color was peeking through. Second, when you are heating the Tootsie Rolls, make small batches (they cool & re-harden pretty fast) and line them around the edge of the plate you’re heating them on. If not, the ones in the middle of the plate heat too quickly and ruin.

So, my mom made this for a friend like 15 years ago, and they stopped being friends because it was “too gross” - really, it was awesome, delicious, and funny but someone can’t take a joke.
Anyway, this cake is a great gauge for fun people.
That’s so ridiculous. I would be so happy if one of my friends put in this much effort for me. Your Mum obviously better off without her.
Hahahaha! Gross.
OMG this is the most twisted, disgusting, awful thing I have ever seen! What kind of mother ARE you?! (I will, of course, be hiring you for my twins next birthday, as I have no creative bone in my body and one of them is obsessed with poop).
Wow! It looks really real, too. I love the food and water bowl ideas.
OMG! My two kitties drop the nastiest, smelliest poop bombs so this “cake” looks absolutely awful to me! Funny, but awful.
I made this for myself many years ago… I worked in a lab that tested cat poo samples for toxoplasmosis and on my last day I made the litterbox cake. It was delicious! But NO ONE would eat it… I made yellow cake and crumbled it and mixed in pudding (mostly vanilla and some chocolate) and then made the poops with tootsie rolls and then I think I crushed some vanilla oreos and added green sugar to the top.
