What I Did: My son is having a friend over tomorrow for a play date. I excitedly told the other mom, OH, I will make them some Kool-Aid playdough! I am an experienced baker and the recipe seemed super simple. I followed it exactly. It was total sticky mush, something I needed 5 minutes to wash off my hands! No way am I letting my 2 year old near this! Where all the people praising it in the reviews lying? Lol, maybe 🙂

My Result:
Next Time I Will: The only possible explanation I can see is that I’m in Mexico. Drinks here are often much sweeter than in America. Maybe the Kool-Aid mixture has much more sugar, or some other ingredient that made things go wrong? Nothing I can do about it now, though!

The problem is you used sweetened Kool-aid for this and not the unsweetened kind. I think for a 2 year old he would eat it and it wouldn’t taste as nice as your though.
I hate to be “that person,” but this sounds like user error. The directions specify unsweetened kool aid powder, and I’m sure using the sweetened kind would kill it.
Yep, the previous commenters nailed it. I have made this exact recipe from this exact pin with perfect results at least ten times now. The problem is using sweetened koolaid. You need only the little packets of unsweetened koolaid powder, no sugar at all.
I’ve made this recipe many times and I can see by the picture that the problem is not the sugar, but that you didn’t cook it long enough. It needs to be cooked until it forms a ball in the pan.
When ours gets a little wet, we just add more flour until it hits the right texture.
My recipe also calls for 2 T cream of tarter that would help is sticken up
I had the exact same problem when I tried this recipe! I cooked it and stirred until it became a ball in the pot. I let it cool and started to knead it but it was too sticky. No matter how much flour I would add, it kept being too sticky. The recipe didn’t specify to use sugar free jello so…Maybe I’ll try that next time.
