What I Did: I had bananas on hand and they looked like a tasty easy treat. They were simple, but the peanut butter wants to slide off the banana. I used regular chocolate sauce. It just didn’t stay on the bananas.

My Result:

Next Time I Will: I have been told, Dove® dark chocolate melts and covers great. I’ll make them again using that.

Your mistake was using chocolate SAUCE. You need actual melted chocolate. That’s what did it. Sauce is meant to stay in a liquid state. Why it doesn’t harden when you pour it over a sundae.

  2. Sandy

Your problem was definitely using chocolate sauce which doesn’t harden. They make almond bark for just this purpose. It melts great and hardens quickly.

  3. Amy

Definitely a User Error. Chocolate sauce is not the same as melted chocolate, so of course it will just slide off.

I tried just frozen bananas dipped in melted chocolate and the chocolate slide right off. I also tried it with non-frozen bananas with the same result. Tasted awesome though!

they need to be dry. The more moisture there is on the surface nothing will stick.

I make these all the time! You have to use a good dollop of peanut butter so that it creates like a sandwich, make sure they are good and cold before you dip them in the chocolate! I know when I make them we also use coconut oil which makes the chocolate smooth. Also don’t forget to freeze them after you’re done dipping them! Lastly, I keep mine in the freezer so that they don’t melt and then when I want a couple I put them in the microwave for a few seconds just so they are not rock solid when I go to eat them!

more a question than a comment… but… would a light coating of corn starch on the slices help the peanut butter stick, perhaps? just dip one side of the slice into it and shake/brush off, maybe?
