What I Did: We only changed the sprinkles to this recipe. We are not sure if we used the wrong icing or what, but as you can see, it did not turn out quite as beautiful as we hoped! Still tasted delicious though.

Next Time I Will: Next time we will probably stop by Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme and call it a day.

It looks like you used frosting, not icing (there is actually a big difference!). I think it also would have come out better if you followed the instructions and began layering from the bottom up–that way you could rest each layer on the one below it for additional stability.

Actually, my daughter (7) likes yours much better, ;-).

I like yours better too! It looks like it was fun to make, and fun to eat. The other one just looks like a decoration.

I call shenanigans on the original. I think they used fondant to make it look like that. It was obviously done at a professional cake shop, anyway.

The original is not frosted or iced, those are dipped. Huge difference.

I agree with Heather. I’ve never seen the recipe but I’d bet money they’re dipped in white chocolate or almond bark. Nothing else gives such a smooth finish, except maybe fondant, and you’d crush a donut hole if you tried to wrap it in fondant.
