What I Did: Everything is detailed in my post. The only thing I did different was use OPI nail polish instead of Essie.

I tried this too! That Sally Hansen No-Chip acrylic top coat is for the birds!! I threw mine away.

The original poster contacted me and said she tried some new things that worked better. I haven’t tried them yet myself but plan to and then do an update to this post. In the mean time, feel free to check it out, try it and tell me what you think!

I’m a nail technician with over 5 years experience. Nail polish is nail polish is nail polish. If it dries in the air instead of being cured by a light, it will never, ever, ever replace a gel manicure. Buy Stickey base coat by CND and Seche Vite top coat if you want my professional opinion. A good base/top coat is the key. You can sandwich whatever you want in the middle. Also, the main key to a good manicure is making sure you nails are very, very clean and dry. Wipe them with polish remover or alcohol and let dry before you paint on the base coat. Any oil, including your natural oils, will make the polish stick less well. Just like any other painting operatio.

Same thing happened to me! I ended up writing Sally Hansen and complaining and they sent me some coupons for products 🙂

I found a tutorial on pintester.com (who is HILARIOUS if you haven’t already found her blog)http://pintester.com/2013/06/diy-gel-nails/ and she got the tutorial from http://ramblingsfromyourstruly.blogspot.com/2012/12/at-home-gel-manicure.html. The tutorial is a gel-like manicure and it worked great for me! It takes a bit of time but with Gelous (from sallys) a nail color and Seche Vite (also from sallys) I have a manicure that lasts for about 2 weeks! Check out one of the sites and see for yourself it’s pretty awesome and a lot cheaper than getting a manicure done professionally.
