    I’ve made this before, but I’ve never tried frosting the sides. I can imagine it wouldn’t work out very well. I just threw a big glob of whipped cream on the top with some fruit and called it good. and it was.

    I so wanted to make this…I had the photo and was just waiting for an opportunity.,…..but now I am not so sure…hmmmmm maybe I will have to get GLUE for the side frosting……

    I attempted a watermelon cake for the 4th too, and it also failed. My error was in using a seeded watermelon instead of a seedless one. The form didn’t hold (due to all the seed holes) and it fell down into a big chunky mess. I just chopped what was left into odd-shaped chunks, threw it into a tray with some grapes and stuck some flag toothpics in there like I’d meant to do that.

    my boyfriend surprised me with one of these once, he put cool whip in the freezer and the watermelon in the fridge overnight before frosting it- came out perfectly!

    I have had someone make it before and they dried the watermelon with a paper towel and then put on the frosting. because the frosting wont stay on a wet surface.. as seen above.
